How to play when you have the Nuts?

Poker Basics: Knowing your comfort level

poker-picHow do you know when you are ready to move up to poker games with higher stakes? This might be one of the questions you have if you are playing the game for quite a while. Like other players you want to conquer your current level of game play and move up to the bigger games with bigger winnings.

You may have read on things about bankroll and win rate when experts discuss about moving up. No doubt these are very important factors to consider when going up the stake level. Here we will focus about assessing your own comfort level.

Money comfort

Before heading to the bigger games, you need to be very comfortable in your current level of poker game. You need not be bothered anymore by the current stakes even when you have a horrible day on the table. Well bad games should bother you but money should not scare you. When you think you are still risking a lot of money at your current level when you play, then you might not be ready yet for the next. When you force the transition, you will be overwhelmed and the game will just be too big for you and you will just be bullied by those who are really comfortable on the higher stake games.

Playing comfort

The feel of the game at your current level should be natural. Like you act like as if it is your second nature. You read how the game will go, and you read it well. You should be very sharp at your current level and have that killer instinct. You should be among those who can bully people out of the table because you are so comfortable playing at that level. If this is not the case, it is ill advised to go up and if you do not listen, you will just be the donkey in a field of monsters.

Without the win rate

Winning streaks should not make you over confident. You might just be having a good beat. And there might be players out there who are having a bad streak but still ready to play with the big boys.

Who was Stu Ungar?

Stu Ungar was one of the greatest poker players of all time; he was also one of the most controversial. He achieved some spectacular success and he also had some serious personal problems that would bring him down. Over the years he would come to alienate most of the other players and would eventually fall off the map as a poker player. However he would also stage one of the biggest comebacks in history when he won his third World Series of Poker. We based this article on the info on the beautiful Stuey Ungar fan site. Thanks, guys!

Stu Ungar grew up in New York City where he showed an aptitude at cards from a very early age. By the age of ten he was one of the best gin rummy players in the city and at the age of fifteen he won ten thousand dollars in a tournament. Unfortunately he would turn around lose all of his winnings betting on horse racing. After graduating from high school Ungar set out to Las Vegas with a plan to make his fortune playing black jack. This plan worked for a while as Ungar proved to be one of the best card counters in the business but this soon led to his being banned from all of the casinos.

No longer able to play black jack Stu Ungar switched to poker. He chose to enter the World Series of poker and despite the fact that he had never played no limits hold’em before he ended up winning the whole tournament. Just to prove that this was no fluke he came back the next year and did it again. Over the course of his career Stu Ungar would enter just thirty poker tournaments but he would win a remarkable ten of them a truly amazing winning percentage.

The Mortal Nuts – What is it?

Well, that’s pretty simple, isn’t it? The Mortal Nuts is the best hand known to man considering all known factors. That means on a board of AAK28 your AK is always the nuts considering nobody can have Quad Aces.

Everybody loves the nuts, but sometimes, having a very strong hand that’s much easier to get paid off on is way nicer! :)

Why I Play Poker

I play poker because it provides me a great rush while at the same time allowing me to be profitable in stead of EV-. I play poker because I like to test myself against opponents, something I can hardly ever do on the tennisredsushi Poker Room field anymore because of knee problems – and last but not least – I play poker because I like to gamble; and this is the only way for me to play a game of chance without having to go broke over the course of the next few decades.

I know I’m taking money from other people – but to me – that’s better than giving money to the casino.
